Printed words on paper

Image of Under Review issue of 'Not One of Us' zine

Exciting mail! I got a copy of the Not One of Us issue called Under Review this week — which includes my story Piscky’s Ascent! My story is about two people left behind in a slowly disintegrating watery enclosure. Not One of Us is the perfect home for this story — a zine with a focus on people out of place in their surroundings: outsiders, social misfits, aliens, and all those excluded.

Apart from a short story competition I won as a high school student, this is the first time I’ve seen my writing officially in print. It’s pretty special.

Also in the Under Review issue are poems by K.S. Hardy, R.L. Raymond, Kent Kruse, and Sonya Taaffe; stories by Lake William Wharton, Patricia Russo, Alarice K. Breidert; and two reviews of work by Sonya Taaffee and Patricia Russo. I very much enjoyed the story Blue Clay by Patricia, which has a wonderful tone to the language, a post-apocalyptic setting where our main characters are young lads — who are out of place in a world ruled by women with a fierce focus on the overall good of the community.

If you’d like to subscribe to Not One of Us, and get yourself a copy of Under Review, subscription info is here (I think you might be able to pay by PayPal). You can also contact the editor to just buy a single copy of Under Review for $3.50 USD + postage.
